Local SEO sounds technical, but it comes down to a handful of habits done well and kept up. If customers near you search for what you sell, this checklist helps you show up when they do.
1. Claim and Complete Your Google Business Profile
Your profile often shows up before your website does, especially on maps. Make sure it is claimed, then fill in every section:
- Business name, address and phone number exactly as they appear on your website.
- Primary and secondary categories that match what you actually do.
- Service areas for the cities you work in.
- Real photos of your work, team and vehicles.
- Accurate hours, updated whenever they change.
2. Build a Page for Each Service
Search engines match pages to searches. One page per service, each with its own heading, description and call to action, gives every offer a chance to rank. Name the service and the area in the page title, and write the content for customers first.
Rule of thumb: if a service brings you real work, it deserves its own page.
3. Add Pages for the Areas You Serve
When you serve more than one city, a page for each location helps nearby customers find you. Write about the area in real terms and avoid copying the same text with the city name swapped. We use this approach on our own service area pages.
4. Make Your Details Consistent
Check that your name, address and phone number match across your website, your profile and every directory. Small differences, like “Street” versus “St.”, add up and confuse search engines.
5. Ask for Reviews, and Answer Them
Reviews help customers choose you and help you rank. Ask happy customers right after the job, send them a direct link and reply to every review, good or bad. Never write reviews yourself or offer rewards for positive ones.
6. Fix Your Basics
A fast, mobile-friendly site helps both rankings and customers. Compress images, keep pages simple and make sure every page has a unique title and description. Our local SEO services cover this groundwork, and every Web King website ships with it built in.
7. Keep Publishing Useful Content
Answer the questions customers ask before they hire you. A short post on how to choose a provider, what a job costs to plan for or what to prepare before a visit gives you pages to rank and proof that you know the work.
8. Check Your Results
Look at which pages bring visits and calls each month. Keep what works, improve what does not and add pages where customers are searching for something you do not yet cover.
The Short Version
- Complete your Google Business Profile
- One page per service
- One page per area you serve
- Consistent name, address and phone number
- Real reviews, with replies
- A fast, clean website
- Helpful content, published regularly
